10/22/2021 08:12:18 am
i agree, owning slaves are bad and very disrespectful
10/22/2021 08:32:18 am
It would appear that an overwhelming majority within the grade believe that the statue should be removed. What about the other U.S. presidents. You may or may not know that 10 of the first 12 U.S. presidents owned slaves. Should we replace each statue that honors these presidents too?
10/22/2021 12:17:11 pm
No, only Thomas Jefferson's statue should be taken down for owning slaves because he was the one who created the law saying "all men are created equal." If he's not going to obey that, he's a hypocrite and therefore doesn't deserve a statue.
10/19/2021 08:26:06 am
I feel the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed from City Hall because Thomas Jefferson owned slaves and I believe someone who owned slaves shouldn't be deserving of a statue because slavery was a bad thing and there shouldn't be statues of people who took part in it.
10/19/2021 08:27:21 am
The statue of Thomas Jefferson should be taken down, even though he was an American founding father, and 3rd president of the United States, Yet he owned and believed in slaves. Thomas Jefferson is a important man, but he does not deserve a statue in city hall.
10/19/2021 08:34:44 am
Yes I think the statue should be removed because of him owning slaves and it's wrong
10/19/2021 08:35:39 am
The statues of Thomas Jefferson Should be removed because he owned slaves and having statues of him is basically looking up to someone who has slaves which is just wrong.
10/19/2021 08:36:12 am
The statue of Thomas Jefferson should be taken down because owning slaves is wrong
10/19/2021 09:05:57 am
Yes I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be taken down because he owned slaves. Owning slaves are wrong and he owns 130 of them when he died.
10/19/2021 09:07:11 am
the statue should be taken down because Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, and he shouldn't be put on a pedestal.
10/19/2021 09:07:18 am
Although Thomas Jefferson had helped the colonies and was the founding fathers, he had believed in slaves and supported it he shouldn't deserve a statue in the city hall for the fact he had committed a great sin to the current society and had wronged the black people he had enslaved
10/19/2021 09:08:56 am
Although Thomas Jefferson was a founding father, and the 3rd president of the United States of America, and even more importantly, vigorously fought and advocated American Independence, The statue should be removed, as Jefferson did support slavery, and even owned 130 of them.
10/19/2021 09:11:51 am
I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be taken down because he owned 130 slaves when he died to work on his farms.
10/19/2021 09:12:44 am
yes i think his statue should be taken down because even though he did write the declaration of independence, it wasn’t right of him to own slaves and still be acknowledged
10/19/2021 09:12:46 am
I think the statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because he supported slavery and owned slaves himself.
10/19/2021 09:14:57 am
I think that Thomas Jefferson's statue should be removed because he shouldn't be honored for owning slaves even though he served as a president it doesn't give him the right to use human beings to work for him.
10/19/2021 10:17:49 am
Thomas Jefferson’s statues across the United States should be removed. Even though he’s one of the founding fathers and wrote the Declaration of Independence he still kept a lot of slaves. It doesn’t give him the right to do that and I think that he should make a good example for the citizens which he didn’t.
10/19/2021 11:32:42 am
I'm not sure if the statue should be removed. On one hand, I think it isn't great that people are pretty much just laser-focusing on the fact that Jefferson owned slaves, even though it was extremely common for the time, and there was literally a law for a significant portion of Virginia's existence, where Jefferson was from, that made it illegal to set slaves free. I just don't think it's logical to laser-focus on one bad thing about an extremely important figure in American history. It's just dumb to cancel anything and everything that is flawed. Jefferson was a human being, and no human is perfect. Soon enough, we'll be saying, "ALL STATUES OF LINCOLN SHOULD BE REMOVED BECAUSE HE DIDN'T CALL FOR THE IMMEDIATE FREEDOM OF ALL SLAVES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA". It just isn't really fair to compare a person to modern standards without taking the figure's time period into account. On the other hand, I don't really get the point of having Jefferson in NYC. He was important to America, yes, but how about a person from New York? He was the president, but I feel like he didn't have a huge impact of New York in particular, and there is probably already enough statues of him in DC. If there isn't, let's make one! Also, the complaints about slavery are completely fair, so I suggest that we erect a statue of a person from New York City, since it's the city hall. For one of the biggest cities in the world, there's tons of options. (Sidenote) Wow. This was way longer and rant-ier than I thought it would be.
10/19/2021 11:34:13 am
oh yeah this is Victor H's comment by the way.
10/19/2021 11:46:54 am
I believe the statue should be taken down because it can be very offended for some people and the fact that Thomas Jefferson owned slaves is not right
10/19/2021 12:21:43 pm
I believe that the Statue should be removed because it is supposed to be a model for people but the fact that he has 130 slaves and it doesn't make a good model
10/19/2021 12:22:07 pm
I Believe that Thomas Jefferson's statues should be taking down. Although he was on of the founding father, and the 3rd president of the United States of America, but he owned a lot of slaves. And its not right.
10/19/2021 12:50:12 pm
i think it should be removed, yes he was important but he's dead and irrelavent, not only that but he supported slavery and owned slaves himself. if someone wants to know what he looks like they can search him up on the internet.
10/19/2021 12:54:39 pm
I think the statue should be remove because Thomas Jefferson owned slaves and support slavery. Especially, when he is the president, he should know better been a big role and do this terrible thing. So the statue should be removed.
10/19/2021 12:55:50 pm
I think the statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed across the United States. Although he was an important figure in the American Revolution, he owned a lot of slaves. Now in modern day, we're trying to get rid of inequality and injustice, so having a statue of a figure that owned and/or promoted slaves gives the wrong idea.
10/19/2021 01:05:34 pm
I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed from city hall, because he own slaves and in today we want equality and justice. That statue of Thomas Jefferson isn't a example of that in fact promoting slavery, inequality and injustice.
10/19/2021 01:34:29 pm
In my opinion I fully think the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed, some may counter that he's considered a founding father, and was the 3rd president all of that doesn't matter America stands equal rights amongst everyone, the fact that he owned many slaves is just opposite of what America is supposed to stand for.
10/19/2021 01:34:41 pm
I think that the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be taken down. Even though Thomas Jefferson did contribute to helping the colonies get their freedom and wrote the Declaration of Independence, there are some drawbacks. As an example, Jefferson wrote that "all men are created equal", ironically, he himself owned slaves. Though Jefferson wrote this in the Declaration of Independence, it seems that he may not have meant people of color as well. Thus, Thomas Jefferson's statue should be taken down from City Hall.
10/19/2021 01:39:15 pm
I think that the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because although he is a founding father and fought for our freedom, he owned slaves and that is the opposite of what he was fighting for.
10/19/2021 02:03:01 pm
They made the right choice to just bring down Thomas Jefferson's statue. It's clear that he isn't a good figure and even though he's one of the finding fathers. Like imagine a person that found a company that is respected; now imagine people find out that they mistreat people- It wouldn't be a good look. Think that to this solution; he's just a racist, white, rich, and powerful dude who just happened to set up this country.
10/19/2021 02:05:23 pm
I think that the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed. I think it should be removed but In addition, they should remove statues of other slave owning people in the city hall.
10/19/2021 02:23:55 pm
I think that the statue should be removed because he owned slaves, which makes him a bad person. However I still think that we need to preserve the founding fathers in history, because even though they weren't all good people they are a huge part of our history and country so its important not only us but the future generations be educated about them all well.
10/19/2021 02:29:47 pm
I think that the Thomas Jefferson Statues should be removed because the fact that he owned slaves contradicts the Declaration of Independence, where he wrote, "All men are created equal". This shows that what Jefferson really meant, was that all white men were created equal, and that people of color were not included.
10/19/2021 02:58:07 pm
Although he was a prominent figure in the history of the United States, the statue should be removed. Owning slaves whilst saying "All men are created equal" is contradicting. He should be shown as an important person in history but he shouldn't be shown in a good light. Even though from his standpoint back then, when the only way to get where he was was with money, owning slaves was still wrong. They should remove the statue and move it somewhere else where it doesn't have as much political meaning. On the other hand, they shouldn't remove it because it's been in the chamber since 1884, but the little bit of history it has in the chamber isn't as significant compared to owning slaves.(They probably shouldn't destroy the statue as it was made in 1883)
10/19/2021 03:06:38 pm
I think that yes his statue should be removed because he owned slaves while fighting against it and wasn't setting a good example as a president.
10/19/2021 03:15:53 pm
I think that the statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because he supported slavery. In the Declaration of Independence he wrote "All men are created equal" but he owned about 130 slaves.
10/19/2021 04:08:01 pm
Even though Thomas Jefferson was one of the founding fathers during the American Revolution and was part of writing the Declaration of Independence, the statue in of him in City Hall should still be removed. This is because he owned 130 slaves, even after he wrote “all men are created equal” on the Declaration of Independence.
10/19/2021 04:42:09 pm
I think that statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed. On the Declaration of Independence, he included that "all men are created equal" but his meaning did not include people of color. Moreover, as a founding father, Jefferson owned many slaves which is unfair treatment and not true to his words on the Declaration.
10/19/2021 04:54:05 pm
Yes I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson in city hall should be removed because he owned 130 slaves. People who owned slaves shouldn’t have statue. And when he wrote all men’s are equal he didn’t mean all men’s if he is owning slaves.
10/19/2021 05:10:20 pm
I think that the statue should be removed because owning slaves is morally wrong and we shouldn't praise someone who owned slaves as property enough to have a statue in city hall for them. However, we shouldn't forget the huge impact that Jefferson as well as the other founding fathers made in history and on our country today.
10/19/2021 05:54:02 pm
Despite Thomas Jefferson being one of the most important historical figures in the US and being one of the founding fathers, I believe that people should remove the statue of him because he supported slavery, owning around 130 African American slaves. Thus, there shouldn't be a statue honoring a horrible person. In addition, in the Declaration of Independence, he wrote that "all men are created equal" whilst owning African American slaves, which is very contradicting. Jefferson owning slaves shows that his idea of equality did not include POC.
10/19/2021 05:54:21 pm
I think the statue should be removed because supporting slavery and owning slaves is horrible and dehumanizing. However I do understand that Thomas Jefferson made a huge impact on American History, and I think that in any case, he should only be mentioned for the sole purpose of educating others about the history of the United States, and not in any way of praise towards him.
10/19/2021 07:57:37 pm
I think the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed because he owned a lot of slaves. By putting up that statue, slavery is also honored because it's a statue of a slave owner. It's not like he needs this statue to be remembered, as he is one of the founding fathers.
10/20/2021 04:20:37 am
I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed from city hall. Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." The way I perceive this is anyone that lives in the united states should be treated the same way as everyone else. Whether they are a slave, female, male it matter. Everyone should be treated the same way. And the fact that he still owned slaves while he wrote this doesnt register right with me. When someone like him owns slaves it doesnt represent the United States the right way. And the fact that this statue is in city hall, where everyone is able to come speak out about their thoughts, our a problem in the city isn't right.
10/20/2021 06:05:16 am
i think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because he owned slaves and believed that u should own slaves and that isn't a good look, and obviously if u owned slaves and have a statue that isn't a good look
I believe that the statue of Thomas Jefferson should not be removed for the fact that he was on of the founding fathers, the third president of the United States, as well as the original writer of the Declaration of Independence. If such a figure was removed, what would that make America? If the author of the Declaration was declared evil, doesn't that make the Declaration evil as well? And what would happen if the foundation of the independence of the United States was seen as evil? Of course, he owned 130 slaves which contradicts his role as a political leader of a democratic union, but, should we conclude someone as bad for one flaw in his life? It is unfair to judge him based only on the fact that he earned 130 slaves. In this viewpoint, all significant figures are flawed in some way. George Washington also owned slaves, but he's seen as a Revolutionary War Hero as well as the first president of the United States. We should see Jefferson as one of the founding fathers, the brilliant writer of the Declaration, not just the man who owned 130 slaves. After all, all people have their flaws. It is unrealistic and unfair to put forth expectations of perfection on anyone.
10/20/2021 06:21:48 am
I think that the statue should be removed because Thomas Jefferson was supposed to be a roll model since he was a president. However, he wasn't because he wrote "all men are treated equal" but he had 130 slaves. That's not what a role model does because people are all supposed to be treated equally.
10/20/2021 07:01:42 am
thomas jefferson's statue should be removed because he didn't go agasint slavery and had slaves himself.
10/20/2021 08:38:34 am
I think that Thomas Jeffersons statues should be removed because when it states that he owns slaves it means when he was president and was someone people voted on to improve the country. As a leader of the country i don't think that its fair that he owned slaves which was unfair. Since there are statues of him all over the us it should be removed to show that slavery isn't ok and shouldn't have ever been a thing. By not removing his statues its showing people that he was a great leader, owning slaves shouldn't make a great leader,
10/20/2021 09:06:28 am
I think that Thomas Jefferson's statue should be removed because he shouldn't be know for being a founding father he had slaves that looks really bad him because and it shows he wasn't a good guy.
10/20/2021 09:24:22 am
I believe that statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because his past relating slaves wasn't good at all. Many people can get offended by seeing the fact he had 130 slaves. If the statues are removed, I think that the other roles that he had in the revolution and others relating with the United States wouldn't be impacted that much because we can still learn about them through textbooks and such without looking at statues and reading the texts that are on them.
10/20/2021 04:46:20 pm
I think that Thomas Jefferson's statue should be removed because he owned slaves and he is the president and the declaration of independence said "all men are equal"
10/20/2021 05:16:14 pm
I think it should be taken down because even though he might've help make America what it is today, he owned slaves which isn't really right
10/20/2021 07:02:32 pm
Although Thomas Jefferson accomplished many things for America overall, I think that his statue should be taken down. I think this because he supported slavery and he had relations with a teenaged slave. In addition, taking the statue down would show that America has grown in some way by changing and preventing past leaders giving a bad example to people now. It also tells that the people who would keep the statue would rather do nothing to the statue than taking it down, or arguing that it should be there.
10/21/2021 06:55:10 am
I think that Thomas Jefferson statues should be removed because he had own slaves, when in the Declaration of Independence stated that "All men are treated equal". Slaves are consider people, so Thomas Jefferson owning slaves make him go back on his own word.
10/21/2021 09:03:27 am
I think Thomas Jefferson statues should be remove because he own a 130 slaves and abuse them. Even through he is the founding father but he own slaves is not right.
10/21/2021 09:24:24 am
i think that Tomas Jefferson statues should be remove because own over 100 slaves and that shows a bad reputation for the us
10/21/2021 09:28:13 am
it was right to take away the stashu because he keap a lot of slaves with was not right
10/21/2021 01:20:41 pm
Yes, i think that the Jefferson statue should be removed.
10/21/2021 01:44:02 pm
I think we should put up a plaque that talks about Thomas Jefferson next to the statue. Although he was a bad person who did horrendous things, he is still an important figure in our history. It’s a statue of Thomas Jefferson holding the Declaration of Independence in which he states, “all men are created equal.” During that time, it might not have been true but now, we can say that we’re closer to that idea. Removing the statue is like trying to erase what happened. Instead of focusing on the negative, we can look at the statue and see how far we’ve come as a nation.
10/22/2021 02:20:19 pm
Clarification: when I said we should put up a plaque, I meant it should be a plaque that includes all the information about Thomas Jefferson: what he did for our country and who he was as a person. More information is better than less information.
10/21/2021 01:57:15 pm
I believe the several statues of Thomas Jefferson across the US shouldn’t be removed. Although Jefferson owned well over 100 slaves, owning slaves back then were common at the time. Not to mention all the other major contributions and achievements he’s made that overrule the single flaw in his career, such as drafting the famous Declaration of Independence, stabilizing the US economy, doubling the size of the US via the Louisiana purchase, and much more. Therefore, even though Thomas Jefferson committed a wrong action in his life, we shouldn’t forget the overruling good he also did.
10/21/2021 06:11:27 pm
Yes because he was a president and he owned slaves even though he is supposed to be an example to the people of America.
10/22/2021 04:42:47 am
I think that Thomas Jeffersons statue should be removed because he’s not that relevant anymore in NYC. Also he did own slaves even though we’re comparing it to standards nowadays I think it’s still a reasonable argument.
10/22/2021 04:47:35 am
The statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because it’s a disrespect to many people in our country to glorify somebody who was a slave owner. Certainly Jefferson has done a lot of good, and in history, some celebrated people have also done a lot of bad. What should determine how these people are honored is if what they did aligns with our values today. As a matter of fact, in the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson wrote, “All men are created equal.” He didn’t even follow the values he set for the United States! There is definitely a disconnect between what Jefferson does and says; this ruins the integrity of the Declaration of Independence. It is our responsibility to be informed of the good and the bad of history. However, we shouldn’t be reminded with a statue of Thomas Jefferson how great he is, while overlooking the fact that he dehumanized others.
10/22/2021 06:08:09 am
I believe the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed from city hall, but should be place. Although he owned 130 slaves, he still helped out the U.S. grow and he is also a big part of history.
10/22/2021 06:08:30 am
Even though removing the Thomas Jefferson statue won't change the past, if we don't remove it, it will be like denying that slavery never happened. If we do remove it, it will be a way of showing change in our nation.
10/22/2021 06:12:01 am
Yes, I think Thomas Jeffersons statue should be removed because even though he was a president and he was supposed to set an example for the whole country, he owned around 130 slaves when most people said no more slaves. He was "against" slaves but owned slaves. Yes he did help write the Declaration of Independence but he never really followed what was written and we shouldn't be reminded of what terrible things he has done in the past and just think about the future.
10/22/2021 06:12:21 am
i dont think that the statues of thomas jefferson should be removed. thomas jefferson was a very successful man being the 3rd president and writing in the declaration of independence. although he did have slaves, and many of them, it was normal at the time for people to have them. even the first president george washington had slaves. if we were to remove his statues because of his connection with slavery then by that rule we should remove all people statues who had slaves.
10/22/2021 06:15:49 am
The statue of Thomas Jefferson should not be removed because though he owned slaves, owning slaves was a normalized thing back then. Even today, there are many things that are wrong to do, but we still do it because it’s been normalized. In addition, the statue was built for a reason. He made a huge impact on the US. Taking down the statue not only doesn’t change the fact that he owned slaves, but it’s also erasing a part of history.
10/22/2021 07:15:01 am
I agree. The benefits he brought upon us outweigh the negatives, and I think that it's important to remember such things
10/22/2021 06:17:48 am
I think that the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed but replaced with a plaque or a like a stone that talks about the accomplishments he did. Some people find that it may be inappropriate because he owned 130 slaves. But we shouldn't remove this figure and forget about him. He is one of the founding father and helped evolve the country. Such as writing the Declaration of Independence.
10/22/2021 06:55:16 am
I think that the statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed. He had over 130 slaves that he used. Yes, he was one of the founding fathers, and he did a lot for the country, but we should take the statue down.
10/22/2021 06:56:03 am
I think that the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed because Thomas Jefferson owned slaves but I don't think he should be made out to be a bad person either so I think they should leave something to remember his achievements.
10/22/2021 06:56:44 am
I think that statues of Thomas Jefferson should be removed while he was a founding fathers with many accomplishments he was a slave owner. It's ironic he wrote in the declaration of independence "all men are created equal" while owning more than a hundred slaves
10/22/2021 06:57:42 am
I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed from city hall i know he was a founding father and the 3rd president he owned slaves and that is not okay every one is equal
10/22/2021 07:00:50 am
I think his statues should be removed because although he was one of the founding fathers and did quite some good things. If this was still the past maybe we shouldn't take down those statues, but it's 2021 and slavery is recognized as a horrible thing. If Thomas Jefferson statues are to be removed, then other statues should he removed to of people that owned slaves including some of the founding fathers.
10/22/2021 07:01:41 am
I believe that we should remove the statue of Thomas Jefferson because he was one of the presidents that owned slaves. Not just a couple, he owned 130 slaves! That is a crazy amount. Although he did own slaves, we shouldn't remember him only for the bad things he did, we is one of the founding fathers that helped build this country.
10/22/2021 07:13:15 am
This may be a bit of a controversial decision. I do not think the statue should be removed. While he did, yes, own slaves, the amount he has done for the country vastly outweighs his wrongdoings. If we did, indeed, take down the statue, It would cause incredible uproar around the country.
10/22/2021 07:44:21 am
I think that the statue should be removed because what he did was terrible
10/22/2021 08:13:05 am
Yes, I think the statue should be removed because he used slave, he owned over 130 slaves. He did a lot for the country but still, slavery is not cool.
10/22/2021 08:14:34 am
Yes, I think the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed. Even though he did some important things for America, He supported slavery and even owned 130.
10/22/2021 08:17:51 am
I think the statue should be removed because owning slaves is a violation of human rights and a direct contradiction to his own words "all men are created equal", If he did mean to include black people then he is a hypocrite, if he didn't then well he didn't see them as people, then again, owning slaves was pretty much mandatory for being a "land-owner" and a rich person.
10/22/2021 08:25:01 am
I think Thomas Jefferson statues should be removed because he supported slavery and he wrote "all man are created equal" but he didn't include all the colors into that quote,
10/22/2021 08:28:29 am
I feel that we should remove Jefferson’s Statue from City Hall because he owned around 130 slaves and he wrote “all me were created equal” and he still owned slaves.
10/22/2021 08:30:28 am
I think that the statue of Thomas Jefferson should be removed because even though he did a lot of important things, he still supported slavery and owned slaves.
10/22/2021 08:42:35 am
I think Thomas Jefferson’s statue should be removed from city hall , even if he was considered one of the founding fathers and did things to make what people call America today because of the fact that he was a slave owner and that to some people that statue can be considered inappropriate and disturbing.
10/22/2021 09:00:40 am
i think thomas jefferson's statue should be removed even if he did a lot for our country, for example he wrote the declaration of independence, but he did own around 600 slaves.
10/22/2021 09:01:01 am
I don't think that Thomas Jefferson's statue should be removed because we are only judging from the fact that he owned slaves. I think that the goods that he has done overshadow the fact that he owned slaves. He helped a lot with shaping the United States today and is one of the Founding Fathers.
10/22/2021 09:05:18 am
I think the Thomas Jefferson statues across the United State should be removed because his connection to slavery. Back then it was okay to own slaves so people didn't cared he owned slaves, but right now, racism problems with black people have been big. It can affect lots of people and cause problems like the George Floyd case did last year. It really didn't make sense to have a statue of someone related to slavery in United State this day.

i agree that the statue should be removed because he owned slaves and that defies what he said in his quote.

i think Thomas Jefferson statues should be remove because he owned slaves even though he fought for freedom. Also because of what he wrote "all men are created equal" in the U.S. Declaration of Independence but he still owned slaves.i also think that now that these years that passed and are going on,people are paying more attention to what people are doing/did and are trying to fix on how they want to "look up to" and who they want in history.

i do think that the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed because he did own slaves and nothing changes the fact that he did in fact own slaves. Owning slaves is horrible and sad. It's simply not cool, so, yes. I do believe it should be removed.

It really isn't my problem whether or not they do but if they do i would agree cause he was a part of slavery he owned people and treated them like they had no value

Half of me say take it down and the other half say to leave it up and let the young kids to know that he did something very bad in the past because it is like a artfact in the past and it let us know that something bad happend in the past.

i believe that its a good idea that there taking down the statue of Thomas Jefferson. even tho he was a big part in history you cant just ignore all the things he did to people of color. lots of people say "it was normal back then" yea sure i was more "normal " to have slaves back in the day but it doesn't mean that people didn't know having slaves was bad.if people didn't know having slaves were bad they wouldn't have had free states.

i think they shouldn't since the statue shouldn't since it was a part of history that we should be glad that we don't have to live in that time but we can look back and maybe think of stuff that are wrong in people minds but that is history it suppose to be wrong not always the happy side of stuff you need to see the dark past and just move on from that and removing it will make it harder to look back and learn from that and history is about all of that. If we do remove Thomas so do we remove George from dollar bills since he owned slaves we can't just remove everything that has bad meaning behind. We should keep historical items or artifacts even if they have a very dark backstory it still matter to history.

I believe the statue of Tomas Jefferson should be removed, but not entirely. I believe a better solution would be to have it relocated to a public (historic) museum that doesn't charge for entry because even though what Tomas Jefferson did and thought of slaves and slavery wasn't entirely right, he was still a founding father who laid part of the foundation for what our country is today. He is still a very important figure in history even if his having slaves doesn't match up with what society today thinks and has established as right and wrong. It would be better to honor the things he did right and acknowledge the things he did that probably weren't so right, rather than trying to place everything completely in one category of right or wrong.

In my opinion, I think that the Thomas Jefferson statue should be removed. I don't think it is a good influence to let a statue of someone who owned slaves to be displayed in City Hall. Back then, having slaves seemed normal to people, but today, as hate crimes grow, people are more aware and against slavery. At the same time, Jefferson was not the only president/important figure in US history that owned slaves, so I’m not completely sure if only taking down Jefferson’s statue will be enough to show that slavery is bad and it should not exist.

I think that the statue should not be removed. Abraham Lincoln was a very successful person and deserves a statue. The statue should not be removed just because he did something that was normal at the time, which is having slaves. Although it is not good now, it was different back then. Abraham Lincoln deserves the statue.

Yes because he wrote all men are creates equal in the Declaration of Independence. However, as a president, he was not a good model.

yes i do think the statues should be gone because he own slaves and he said all man are created equal and he did a lot of good stuff for us but he still supported it and that's not right

Yes, because he did the opposite of what he was fighting for and he owned slaves.
