This election may be the most important election since President Lincoln in 1860. Everyone who is eligible to vote and at least 18 years old must. However, even those who are younger 13 or 14 years old can still practice their civic duty by reminding the adults in their lives to vote.
Also the last day one can register to vote in New York State is this Friday, 10/9/20--so please tell everyone to register if he/she has not done so already!
The election is very important during this time because everyone is struggling due to covid. So if we elect a good president it could make our country a bit brighter. But it depends it could be good or bad we could elect a president that could ruin our time in 2020 or turn the tables and make it better.
I think that it is right for people not able to vote yet to get a understanding and if they know anyone that didn't vote they should tell them immediately because the elections are important because they choose who gets to make life changing decisions.
i think those who are too young to vote dont really make a difference in telling their parents bc, their parents have their own opinion. im not saying they cant try but, its just harder from my perspective.
You could be right in some ways however it is still important to pay attention to politics even when you cant vote because these elections impact our futures
Honestly depends on how stubborn your parents are I think.
Who in their right mind is going to believe a child over something like a presidential election? It's like telling your parents in the 70's to invest in the stock market in (insert company name here) because (x reason). It's pretty laughable, but if it actually works, and you're successful, then all power to you.
why did they pick 18 to be the age to vote? i think 19 could be better than 18
Anyaa, why do you think 19 is a better age than 18 to vote---- after all it is just one more year.
why do we need an age to vote anyway?
I think the election this year is going to be very important. I have no clue who is going to win but whoever does win is going to have a big part in deciding the future.
My concerns about the election this year is if everything will go smoothly. First, many people aren't happy with what Donald Trump has done for our country so if he becomes president maybe riots will break out and etc. However if there are any other presidential candidates who win, there may be a change in what's happening or the outlook of the pandemic or other issues.
Whoever is the most voted better make some good decisions because presidents play a big role.
I feel like 14 and up should be able to not or at least 16 and up so they can have a opinion or a voice in this election .
Kids can be immature. They also make many more irrational decisions than adults. Further, humans from ages 5-17 are in a critical development stage and are easily influenced and taken advantage of (I would know, I've been manipulated many times before). I won't deny your claim that children should vote, but I'm saying that it would be dangerous and there would still be people left out. You can't please everybody.
I agree with you but not at 14 because they could be swayed by others.
I feel like even though citizens are allowed to vote when they are 18 or up, I feel like they probably still get pressured and vote someone they probably wouldn't vote for until a friend told them to. I think they should increase the age of being able to vote, to like 21.
By that logic, shouldn't we increase the minimum age to join the army? I mean, they are risking their lives for the country they live in, and even with all the benefits, the mortality rate is fairly high considering that these are pretty much still kids. Even at the age of 21, you're still getting influenced.
This election can be the most important, but making a decision of who to pick for president is not easy. During their debates, there was lots of interrupting and sort of a toxic environment /language that their points weren't getting from point A to point B as directly as they could. One question that I have about the election is that why does the electoral college exist? The popular vote does not really matter in a certain case. This is what I mean. The electoral college determines the president by casting their votes like any other regular person. BUT, the people in the college also has their own opinions. They can have the same, or different opinion from the majority vote. As an illustration, if the popular vote goes to trump, but the electoral college votes chooses Biden, Biden will be president, if they votes chooses Trump, Trump will be president and etc.
Zihao--excellent point about the Electoral College it certainly can be a huge factor in deciding the election
Hopefully the new president who will be elected, will know what their doing and will take the right actions to prevent more problems specifically covid and black injustce.
I'm going to say this right now. I don't want to burst anybody's bubble of security. But, I will say this. No person is the embodiment of justice. Everyone has an ulterior motive, something they don't tell you. Politicians can be incredibly corrupt, and even if they claim great things, there's a high chance they won't deliver on their promises (see current president at the time, Donald Trump). Therefore, what you said would exist in a perfect world, a 1 in a infinite amount of worlds. You can pretend all you like. You can dance around the issue. But you can't deny that what I said is true. Because it is.
I think that this years election will be very important since covid-19 is still going on. whoever wins this years elections will get to have big responsibility for the future.
I think those that are young should at least get an opinion at least 14 years old so they can be noticed.
I agree that you should be able to voice your opinion when you're 14 years old! How do you think you can make your opinion known? How can we make our opinions matter? (How can we learn more so that our opinions are based on facts?)
I can get proof from the news or look for evidence in the news.
How do you guarantee that somebody won't be stupid and swing the favor of the election to someone that would be detrimental? How do you know that the massive amount of new voters know what's good for the country? How do you know that they can't be taken advantage of?
Great questions! I'm curious what your thoughts are? How would you answer those questions?
I hope our new president is really committed to helping out with this pandemic, because he will have a lot of responsibility’s and have to
make many sacrifices
My concerns for the election is that firstly, people will not vote it is important to vote so we don't have Trump as president. My second concern is having trump not only is he a racist, homophobic, he condones white supremacy, and he is the reason that thousands of people are dying and millions are infected. My third concern is that Joe Biden will lose swing states because those are most times the decider of the election so we need the swings so Biden can win the Election. Lastly, i'm concerned because Trump is a flat out liar he makes accusations with no evidence and he promises things he can't even follow through with.
I think this year is going to be a interesting year after what have happen this year. But I feel like most kid are now trying to use their voice for adult to hear about what they have to said. I think adult should give chance to kid to speak their mind.
As we are talking now during speech, I love your comment and how you have elaborated on it for us to share with the group: To have our voices heard, and our opinions heard, it might be stronger to express them in a group of people. As you said, with one person it's harder to get attention.
Here's the problem with allowing children to speak their minds. Kids are notoriously easy to sway. With a good enough proposition (i.e. new video games, $100.00 in credit card, etc.) any kid would graciously follow up on that deal in spades. Also, kids are still optimistic and think that the world is perfect, and that nobody can lie. So, any competent Politician that knows how to sway adults that are more intelligent, then kids would be much easier to abuse.
I hope that whoever will be voted to be the next president, will be leading and impacting our country in a positive way and not a negative way.
The candidates for the new president based on the opinions I have seen so far, do not seem to be liked that much based on what I hear (Which is not that much). Trump has obviously did some horrible things in his presidency and based on what I hear about Biden (Which is not that much), he seems to not be that likeable like Trump. So, my concerns about the next president is that hopefully, the will do great in their years of presidency and my thought is that people will probably be voting against what they think is worse instead of voting for who they think is better.
My question is that when I was reading about the election on wikipedia they mentioned these people named Jo Jorgenson and Howie Hawkins who the website said were from different political parties and were also running for president. I am confused since I had never heard of these people and I thought the election was between Biden and Trump.
im just a little worried about what can happen in the futre if trump is voted for again
Why should the age be 18 to vote? Can’t it just be like 16 or 17?
When you are 16 or 17 you are still a minor.
I think that this presidential election will start riots and protest because if people want one to win and that one doesn't win they will be mad and start riots. I also think that people under the age of 18 can have and impact on this too. Maybe a kid can change a mind of adult on who to vote for and who to run this country. I hope that everything goes very good with the election and nothing bad happens.
I hope whoever gets voted has good leadership and are able to improve the government. Only 18 and older should be able to vote because they know what they are doing but if younger they may not understand and just randomly vote someone.
I think that no one will be elected because no one will give, and for a long time Nancy Pelosi will be a stand-in president, which is not necessarily a bad thing with all things considered. But, having no official president might mess America up a lot as we are always used to having a decent leader (or at least were used to it until 2016). Also, if Biden does win the election (which he hopefully will), the tension will only grow in the period of time from November 3rd to January, when Biden is officially inaugurated, because people will probably become so desperate to see a person with actual leadership skills that things could go downhill really quickly.
I had hear news about Donald Trump got the coronavirus and I'm wondering how will that affect the presidential election.
I think that this years election is very important, and whoever wins this election will have a huge job ahead of them. They will need to deal with the economy which is not doing well, with covid 19, health care, violent crime and racial inequality. I hope that who ever wins will be able too deal with these major issues and really help us the American people.
This years election is pretty important since they would have many problems in ahead like covid and black lives matter etc. Trump has lied about many things which is why many people think we should vote for Biden.
I think that the election this year is important because it's really going to decide what's going to happen in the future and what going to happen later on in the pandemic.
I think that the election this year is just as important, or even more so than other years. This is because there are still many cases of COVID-19, and we need a president who can help lead the states in what to do if we have to be quarantined again.
I think if I had a choice to vote, I would choose the one who focuses more on the recent events such as covid and continue to push for equality for black people. But I don't such want to hear them say it, I want to hear their plan like what will they do if a second wave occurs. I see the comments about not being 18 years or older about and how its unfair. I feel that it is fair because 18 year olds are adults and a lot is on the line and people can't be making silly choices. I think people sometimes forget that whoever wins will be in control of our country for the next 4 YEARS. 4 years in a very long time and a lot can happen.
I think that this election is important because there will be many issue and problems in the future like how they can help slow down coronavirus.
I think that the election is not fair towards younger people than it is to adults, because the opinion of anyone under 19 doesn't matter because the adults in our lives have their own opinion and won't change because maybe they think they know more than us or they have their own strong reasoning, and even if we could vote the election this year is on 2 very not likable people so, we would think to vote the best option but, there isn't really one.
I am concerned about what's going to happen if trump wins again. He has a history of not being too friendly towards women, people of color and the lgbtq community. Following the death of RBG, a lot of people are scared for the future treatment of those communities. The presidential election was....uh.....interesting? The moderator has the patience of a saint. For everyone who can vote, please vote. :>
I think that this election will be one of the most important elections in history. This is because whoever becomes president has an extreme amount of responsibility on their hands. The president will have to increase the amount of money the economic system has as well as increasing the amount of work there is because of the amount of jobs and money lost during covid. The president must also focus on making the United States citizens safe from covid and preventing any inequailty that still remains today.
This election could be a major turning in how the government is going to handle the coronavirus since if Biden is re-elected then he'll probably enforce and try to clean up the anti-coronavirus effort but if Trump is re-elected who knows how he might try to deal with the coronavirus. A big part of this might be the electoral college who might have their own political interests. Either way there will be a huge amount of weight on whoever's going to be president so in reality these people should be more careful about what they say.
I think this election would be a rather more intense election. The reason why I would say this is because the friction and relationship between the two candidates running for president do not have a good relationship with each other, with very different perspectives through leadership. Thus I think the next leader would have big responsibilities.
This year's election of 2020 will for sure be important in our nation's history. Whoever is elected for this year's presidential election will determine whether the future circumstances will positively impact the country, or whether they will negatively impact the country. We need to elect a president who is capable of leading the country right, who understands the importance of following the laws and the principles set for us in the constitution, and someone who knows what hardship is based from personal experience: someone who is empathetic, who can relate to everyone's immense stresses and difficult struggles.
This year's election is very different from other's because of this life-changing virus. Whoever wins this election will need to help the United States get back on its feet. The economy of the US has took a plunge this last 6 months and we need a president that can help us get back up and restart the economy for the better. This election is so important because we need a strong president to get us through this next year because it's not going to be an easy one. So many small business are struggling and some are even forced to close down and whoever is elected needs to help and make smart decisions.
I think that this election will be a very important one because the country has been in a very bad position for the last 4 months and whoever wins this election will have a lot of responsibility. Whoever wins this election will set the tone for the future of this country and will have to be capable to make smart and the right decisions for this country.
i think that the presidential election will go down to be one of the worst elections ever due to both candidates being complete clowns.
I am worried about what might happen in this election because I don't have a say and in my families opinion they don't think either are good
I'm concerned about the outcome of this election. I feel like this election is going to be very important in history because this determines America's future for the next four years. This can go terribly wrong or good. The next president is definitely going to have a lot of work and responsibilities, for example, covid-19, the economy, and depending on whoever wins, minorities, people of color, LGBTQ+ people's rights could be in danger. Moreover, I feel the rule that people of ages 18+ is not very fair especially this year because the older generations and the younger generations have very, very different beliefs and opinions. But more of the older generations can vote than the younger. So I'm sure that some people feel as if their voice is invalid or doesn't matter.
I think that whoever is elected into office will have a lot of weight on their shoulders. Everyone will be expecting the new or re-elected president to stop black injustice and take Covid seriously. In addition, its more like the candidates are fighting a war with one another then being elected President of the U.S.. We are also more likely to see more riots depending on who will wins the election.
I think whoever wins the election will need to step up since the country has been in a bad place for the last few months, so whoever wins need to be capable of making smart and right choices that would benefit the country. :3
This year's election would be very important due to the fact of how our next president would affect our country with his decisions. My concern is that if Trump becomes the president again, he might not care about the increasing amount of covid cases which were cause because of how he didn't handle it well in the beginning and not really caring about it. We would basically all die. Since also how Trump went to greet his supporters even though he got tested positive. It shows how he didn't really care about him being tested positive and may spread to others. If Biden becomes president he would at least take care about the population of infections and decrease the amount of deaths. He would care about the lives of Americans.
I don’t have much to say, other than that I really don’t want to take sides, and that I’m keeping neutral in this situation. However, this election would be quite important, especially with Covid still around.
I believe that this election is going to be extremely important for the US due to the fact that all the events that have happened in the United States in 2020 are extremely serious for the well beings of many people. The person that gets elected as president has to bear the responsibility of restoring the country to a good state, which means the people of this country must select a GOOD person to do that job. That brings me to think that, contrary to what many people believe, only people over the age of 18 should be allowed to vote because, the people under 18 usually have their own political opinion that is based off social media and not everything they see on social media is true but they choose to believe otherwise which may lead them to believing the wrong things. In addition, many people have their parents force their political beliefs on them. This doesn't allow those people to form their own opinions and think for themselves which is why I believe people over the age of 18 should be allowed to vote.
Personally, I do not pay very much attention to politics because most of it is biased. Although, in my own opinion from what I know, I believe Trump to be one of the worst presidents considered. Mainly I believe he has committed many crimes, said many unforgivable things, and I don't believe he is at all fit to be our president again considering he is extremely sexist, makes reckless choices, is immature, and never controls what he says.
I think this year election is very important because this election might affect the future of America. Therefore, I think most people should participate for the voting and choose a better president for America. Also, I think that this year presidential debate is the worst in American history. My concern for the presidential election is that I hope that our future president will do a good job handling the COVID-19 and will led America to a better future.
Kevin, let me just say that albeit not all responses to this question is equal, but the thing is Kevin, we”re not gonna vote, we are minors, we’re just talking about this for social studies, okay?
I think this year’s election will be a big impact on America other than the whole coronavirus pandemic. I think the votes matter in that people get to have their own perspectives and opinions about who they think would suit the role of our president, especially in bringing the country forward on in this situation. I haven’t really paid attention to this year’s election as much as the past years because I feel like the debates are all covered in COVID-19 news.
Excellent ideas, concerns and questions. Thanks Ms. A for getting involved it matters a great deal! Let's keep the dialogue going throughout the year. Bravo to those students who have contributed to this blog thus far.
Just wondering Mr. G who did you vote for?
Martin, I do not like to reveal who I vote for since I do believe this can influence others. Also, we live in an indirect democracy, where during a Presidential election, voters are really voting to an electorate, who then cast their vote for the President. It's not perfect but it's what we use.
These are wonderful thoughts and ideas I have read from all. Bryan, do you think that the voting age should be increased or decreased? It seems many have expressed this question as well.
I don't think Trump should win again. He is worried about things that are not important at this time of a pandemic.Trump doesn't even wear a mask, yet people think that he should win. They should let 16 and older to vote. They should be allowed to vote because we are the new generation and what we think should matter.Everyone needs to think about how we feel because we are the next generation
I think this years election will have a big impact for the coming years.
I don't think trump should be president again. Honestly speaking he was not a good president what so ever. We are in a serious pandemic and he doesn't even wear a mask that's why he got covid-19. I think if he gets elected again he will not care about the pandemic. This years election is extremely important because the USA has been in a bad place for the past few months. Who ever gets elected needs to know they will have a lot of weigh on their shoulders and they should make The united states citizens safe from covid.
I have mixed feelings about this election because I don't know what choices are going to made by the new president. I hope the new president thinks situations through and about what the best choice are for the us.
I have mixed feelings for this years election because I don't like Trump and I'm not a big fan of Biden. I don't like trump because he is racist and he puts his attention in unnecessary things like banning the app TikTok. Instead, Trump should be focusing on the global pandemic and wearing a mask when he goes outside. I'm not a big fan of Biden because he doesn't have the best past.
I thing this year's president election is the most important ever. Because now we have a COVID19 now and still here . We need a president can handle this situation and the economy . And all the citizen over 18 must to vote this year,
Gilbert, we are so glad you expressed your thoughts on this topic. It is very important that everyone does their part in our elections. Including you!
First off think the adult should give more chances for kids to speak their minds even though they might not be as "mature" or grown as other adults, but they still have the right to speak their minds they should be able to have a voice.
For this upcoming presidential election Trump does nothing but interrupt Biden making me lose track of what actually happening. All this time and effort he used for talking back he could have used it to save lives and solve bigger problems instead of arguing against him. The money that he wasted for a golden toilet he could have donated. To be honest I'm sure that a guy with a gold toilet who talks nothing but nonsense would totally understand the struggles normal people go through. All he cares about is how much money there is instead of the actual people he is supposed to take care of since he is a "leader".
To start off, I think that Biden should win this years election because with Trump being the president for four years he hasn't done much but start trouble. During this global pandemic he has been careless about COVID and hasn't been working hard to help out anybody during these harsh times. On the other hand, I don't completely agree with what Biden had done or said in the past but I still believe that he would be a way better president than Trump because from what I've seen in the debate Biden seems to be someone who knows how to deal with certain situations properly and smartly. He could probably handle COVID very well.
I would just want the election to go smoothly and hope people choose the president that would do things to stop covid and stuff.
This year's election is important because of Covid 19. The handling of COVID questions authority and leadership of whether you can lead the U.S. through a crisis.
I honestly just think the election we had 4 years ago wasn't really that great. Not to offend anyone but neither of the candidates were good so it was a pretty close call. Trump ended up winning more state votes. I don't like this year's election either. Biden does have good points but I just feel like he's getting all the support because everyone just hates Trump and I have a bad feeling about this....
To begin with, I'm concerned about this years election because whoever wins would be responsible for our country. People aren't happy with how Donald Trump is dealing with Covid-19 and if he gets re-elected there might be riots about it. Personally, I don't pay attention to the news but whoever wins would have to have good leadership and help U.S get through and deal with Covid-19.
i am a fan of neither candidates. i just hope the next 4 years won't be bad
It depends on what are the presidents willing to do, and the relationship between the US citizens. For example Donald Trump did not do an Ideal job to deal with the crisis on this year. I won't go much further in depth but he's a bully, he blames China entirely for the Covid which is not true but apparently he claims that. But me personally I don't have too much trust on Joe Biden, and his claims are. Honestly since we have so much problems in this year My Concern is who should we depend on.
Personally I am not a fan of both candidates. Due to current situations like Covid-19 the candidates will most likely obtain votes depending on how they will deal with the pandemic. So far Donald Trump hasn't been handling the problem very well.
I think people should vote for a better president that they think that president can make a good impact for the future America and someone who can fix and deal with the COVID-19. Furthermore I'm not a fan of any presidents and I just hope that the few years it will be better then 2020.
Since this election is one of the most important elections in history, due to civilians suffering due to Covid-19 many people lost their jobs, have no money to support their family, and to stay inside to prevent spreading the virus. This election may or may not help the problem that everybody is having right now. If we get a president that can help this situation that’s happening, maybe we will stop the spreading of the virus not just in United States, but maybe the entire world.
I pay less attention to the presidential election, so I know less about it, but I care more about what happens after the presidential election.
