My thought of this photo is that since the coronavirus is spreading quickly and a lot of stores are shutting down or out of stock, since stores are shutting down due to coronavirus people are trying to order online such as Amazon.

I think there is rumor saying NY will be in lockdown soon and that we should prepare according to our mayor. However, the governor disapproves the idea. I guess people are stocking up just in case it does happen within a 48 hour notice. The fact that we don't know what will happen leads us to anxiety about starvation so people tend to buy loads and carts of food each day. Businesses are now closing. Theaters, gyms, nightclubs, and commercial gyms were required to close last night at 8 pm. People are now only able to take out from restaurants. However, many people don't go to restaurants because they are scared of the hygiene and sanitation.

Karen, you are correct--the mayor and governor are not on the same page.

I believe that, Based on these pictures, within weeks or months, the United states will go into a total shutdown of services and start feeding out money and supplies from emergency storehouses. If the cure is not found fast, we may find ourselves all in quarantine and the government might initiate a CONPLAN for a virus like this one. Maybe the city will be run by the military. This might only happen if the virus were to spread too quickly and deplete resources too much, so we should all do our part in keeping the virus as contained as possible.

Since the coronavirus is serious, many people are ordering things online so that they don't need to go out. Everyone is scared to go out now so many business are dropping.

I mean i'm not surprised because at this rate the corona virus is spreading like crazy so people are stocking up in case they can't get supplies later on. NYC might be getting ready to shut down because of how severe the spread of it is.

My thought on the note in the picture is that it's a good thing that it is temporary closed since it could make the virus spread earlier. Plus, even if the stores are closed, most stores, you'll have access to the store website or the phone number. In the first picture, my thought is that most people are now ordering online like crazy, just in case the city will shutdown.

This a very scary time. An outbreak of this magnitude hasn't happened since the influenza break during WW1. Needless to say, that both pictures show the impact a pandemic can have on both people and the retail industry. The first picture shows the hoarding. Hoarding is something that people during this pandemic feel they need to do. I know people who have justified stocking up on toilet paper and hand sanitizer to an unbelievable extent. When people do that they could be potentially keeping items like, that out of the hands of people who have been most impacted by this. The second picture shows the impact the virus has on business. The majority of businesses have to be shut down, unless you can work from home. Companies like Amazon and Purell must be extremely happy this pandemic is happening, They get to profit so much from our fears.

Trent, I read Amazon is actually hiring 100,000 new jobs to keep up with on-line service. And yes, you are correct they are profiting from our fears, well said.

I think that this picture is trying to tell us that we may have to get ready and start preparing for totally isolation. Food sources are starting to shit down and we need to be stocked up with all of our essentials.

These photos are definitely an accurate representation of the pandemic here in New York. Since many stores are closing, people are doing their best to stock up on supplies, especially since the city might close down soon. If New York ends up being quarantined by the government, people want to have supplies at home. Keep clean and stay healthy.

It feels like people are trying a little too hard to quarantine themselves and others. In China it's reasonable but in New York I don't get why people are taking such serious precautions over this virus.

Leila, you make a valid point. I think the reason why we need to take these drastic actions now-- is so hospitals will not be overwhelmed by the amount of people that will come down with the virus. Remember there is no vaccine right now and we need to stay away from crowds because if we don't the germs will just spread and infect many others.

I think that looking at theses pictures supports the fact that we need resources, and that being safe in doors is best for us to keep the virus contained. And try our best to stay healthy.

I think that if people continue purchasing things online, soon everything would be out of stock and must likely stores would be shut down. People would buy food supply at home.

Many household items, food with longer shelf lives, and disinfecting supplies are out of stock. Many people are panicking and buying a lot of hand sanitizer, toilet paper, soap, face masks, clorax wipes, lysol spray, etc. I think that you should buy enough but not too much. I saw on the news recently how many poorer families aren't able to buy supplies because the prices keep rising and they can't afford it. Hoarding is a issue now and it is not helping the situation.

It's kind of scary how so people are storing so much food and daily necessaries in their homes. If a few people start storing food, others will be scared they have no food and they will also start storing food and soon everyone is storing all their needs at home. And the supermarkets and groceries are going to go empty. I feel some people are over dramatic.

It's kind of crazy how we're living like this because of the virus. A lot of stores are closing, and it's as if I can feel the radiation of people's fear in those boxes and the paper.

I don' think it is a wise choice to close all buisnesses and have a shelter in place because it only will cause panic to the public. In addition, the economy will be messed up because not everyone can pay their taxes without income. For example, if a taxi driver can go out for work, what does he do? He wouldn't have any income and it messes up the whole economy. I don't think New York shouldn't do this because New York is a city to look up to for most cities and it would be bad if New York City has a shelter in place and will cause even more panic and misinformation.

Reasonably, a lot of New Yorkers and other individuals would be scared during this time leading to purchasing items online and getting them delivered to your door instead of going out. This of course, caused a lot of businesses to close for a while, since they aren't making a lot of profit anymore. Some places, are only allowed to do delivery and can't allow customers to eat in because of sanitation issues and more. I do think this will mess up the economy (of course this method of isolation comes with cons), but taking extra precautions to stay safe is never a bad thing.

I think that these pictures depicts New Yorkers' panic. People are afraid to go out because of the fear of catching Covid-19, so they are ordering things online instead. Moreover, most stores are running low on stock for many essentials such as soap, toiletry, and etc. I hope everyone will have the supplies necessary to get through this pandemic.

I think these pictures show how scared people are and they are getting prepared by buying lots of food. Everyone just stays home and is unwilling to go out. I think New York will be in a lockdown soon which might make many people freak out.

The amazon thing is kinda normal for me since the trucks that bring the food always unload there supplies in front of my building, so I am used to seeing boxes of food stacked up like this. On the other hand, stores being closed is generally new for me. Just today I went into a store and they said you could only order online if you wanted food. I hope this ends since I had mac and cheese for dinner like 3 nights in a row. I love mac and cheese, but still.

In my opinion it's okay to stock up on materials, which is why there are a bunch of packages. But, I do not believe in stalking up to a point it is selfish. For example, buying more toilet paper than you need.

The boxes of food and the notice on the paper, makes me believe that NYC is going to be in a complete shutdown soon (as a lot of people were saying as well). Since people can't go outside because of their worries of sanitation and the virus itself, people are more likely going to order things online, to make things safer, and easier for themselves (what my family is doing as well). However, the paper/ notice makes me think that a lot of people aren't going to work for a while (for obvious reasons), and a lot of people are going to lose money and might go in to debt. Even though people can work at home, a lot of people can't. For example, restaurant workers, and much more. This is a problem and people need to support their families. So, there needs to be a solution to that (I haven't figure the solution out yet).

Most stores around me has sold out since everyone's stocking up. My family and I rarely go outside and if we do it's usually for emergencies, for instance, we would go out to buy food if we are out of stock. Doing business now is harder too. Since my father is a businessman, his business has gotten worse and it's harder for him to make money.

These pictures, in my opinion, are a great example of the fear, anxiety and crave that New Yorkers and the world have for any leg up they can get. I personally believe that stocking up and saying safe is extremely important and that while some people are taking it too far, it is of massive importance to stay at home because of the lives you could save.
