My family and I are doing just fine. This global pandemic situation is really devastating because it has effected many things around the world and has prevented us from living a “normal life”.

My family and I are doing fine. I was absent last Thursday and Friday due to a sore throat, but it has already subsided. This global pandemic is not going to go away anytime soon, but I hope it’s as lethal as we originally thought. (Which is not very lethal) The worst case scenario is if it has a sudden mutation that ramps up the lethality by a lot. Hopefully this doesn’t happen.

My family and I are doing fine. When I go outside, I feel like its very difficult to walk around without worrying about catching the virus. It's hard to imagine what is surrounding us as the weather is very nice and bright out. I'm pretty sure restaurants around the country are required to only have takeouts or deliveries so this impacts a lot of the people out in the country where they would have to be um-employed. I am just worried what if New York City would be in a whole lock down : from a city that has lots of people outdoors to a city with no one out.

Reply
Mr. G
3/16/2020 10:39:42 am

Karen, presently families may order take-out or go to supermarkets. Understand that if we "flatten the curve" now as many scientists believe--meaning reduce the virus from spreading in NYC and the rest of the country, we will be fine. But, I certainly feel your concern.

Mr.G, I also have another thing to say about the quarantine. It reduces the amount of pollution on Earth. Global warming was a hot topic and still is a hot topic but we take less precautions towards it and how to prevent it from getting worse. Now, people can't pollute as much as people are forced to stay indoors. I mean there is a benefit to the CoronaVirus but there is more negative effects for it.

My family and I are doing perfectly fine and we are trying to do our best do live “normally.” But because of the outbreak our lives still significantly changed since most of us are always home. Since, we are all stuck at home one good thing is we get to communicate more. Hence, we get to interact with each other verbally rather than through the internet.

My family is extremely worried because my grandparents are old. I feel like this global pandemic is messing up many things. For example state tests and our projects. Its also hard for people to go to work, having to worry about catching the virus. But they have to earn money to support their families which makes it very stressful on our parents.

Hi, my family and I are doing fine. We have taken to just staying at home and trying to go out as less as possible and only if it requires any of us to go out. My initial thoughts of the pandemic were that it wasn't so bad on Friday, seeing that school is closing now, it really seems to have gotten to a bad point. New York also seems to be closing many stores and restaurants so it'll be a problem for the many people who work at these places.

My family and I are doing fine. When I go outside, it feels really different. The energy isn't the same as it was before Corona. I
am really thankful that we are in the 20th century and there is the internet for us to communicate with friends and other family. What I'm most worried about is how long this will happen for. Even if the mayor said 1 month it's possible to go on longer and I'm afraid that our lives won't be "normal" for a while.

My family and I are doing fine. It's been quite boring these days since I am not allowed to go outside. Usually I get entertained by playing basketball outside, but now I can't. I have nothing to watch since the NBA got shut down, and no March Madness. The only things I've been doing was play video games, watch some anime, eat, then go to sleep. Finally, I miss my friends. It's really hard living like this, and I hope the virus would go away quicker.

Some solutions to handling this crisis is to always keep yourself away from germs and always make health your first priority. Knowing that it’s not the best time to go outdoors even thought it is very tempting bc of the amazing weather, we should just stay in a pray for the best.

Quarantine yourself and always wear a mask outside. I think we shouldn't go outside at all. It is too dangerous to go anywhere right now. Don't touch too much things when we are outside because it is very germy.

Social distancing, self quarantine, etc. Honestly anything that can slow down the spread of the virus because as of right now it's still spreading like crazy so by distancing yourself from human interaction would be best since there really is no way to tell if you have it or not and if you do you might now know until later on and by then you could've spread it to others.

My family and I are doing fine.  My parents went outside today to stock up on food while my brother and I stayed home.  Although I don't enjoy going to school, I have to admit that it is pretty boring at home.  The weather is very nice outside which makes me want to go out.  I think that this global pandemic is affecting the way many people view Chinese people.  I've seen many posts on Instagram about how Chinese people were getting beat up because people thought that they have the virus.

My family and I are doing fine. Although things have changed dramatically. We are always home most of the time and haven’t done much besides buy groceries. Along with this there has actually been positives, lots of cleaning and not just cleaning to disinfect but also cleaning junk and putting everything where it belongs. We have also started doing a lot of indoor exercise much more often then usual. It’s quite disappointing that everything got canceled, but it’s good to see our government is taking precaution to this global pandemic. As needed. I wonder what it’ll be like once we head back to school, after being out for so long and doing things online the adjustment will be big.

For now, my family and I are doing fine. However, it seems that my parents continue to worry more and more as they see the news about cases all around the world. My parents told my sisters and me to stay at home and away from possibly getting in contact with someone that could have the virus. But this virus seems to be one of the most dangerous considering how much awareness it is raising amongst people. I believe the best solution is to stay clean and away from going outside.

The hardest part about this situation for me has been working in frequent hand-washing to my daily routine, and catching myself whenever I'm about to touch my face. I've been surprised by how frequently I've had to so. Thankfully I am antisocial to begin with, so social distancing has not been a problem for me, but for my father, who is as social as they get, it has been very hard. I am most interested to see how the candidates' comments on SARS-coV-2 in the most recent democratic debate are interpreted by Democrats, and Republicans. I'm especially interested to see if any Republicans will speak out against Trump for his mismanagement of the situation, and if it affects the election. Unfortunately, as James Carville said, "it's the economy stupid," so I think the election will mostly blow down to how the stock market is in the next 6-8 months. Today it took a nose-dive so it's grim at the moment for Trump. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Similar to most of the people who comment, my family and I are doing fine. I personally felt sad when I heard about the news that school was going to be closed on Monday. It was unfortunate that school closed because school is a more interesting place to be at than staying at home (even though I can sleep late and go on my computer before 3pm) and mostly sitting around for the entire day. The global pandemic will be a huge topic online (already is but it will be bigger) as more cases pop up through out the country. However, I think it'll be pleasant if there are other big (good) news on the internet that could bring people's attention away from the coronavirus for a period of time because there's just way too much fear of the virus everywhere....

Hope you are doing well :D

My family and I are doing well. However, we do get worried when we think of my grandparents who are quite old and those with underlying conditions. It's almost hard to believe how much COVID-19 has impacted the world. In addition, it is very frustrating to A) see your favorite things and events you were looking forward to getting cancelled one after another even though it's for our own good and B) see how badly America has messed up their testing situation compared to countries like South Korea. And frustration is one of the hardest parts of this pandemic. The fact that we must stay home, revert to indoor exercise and social distancing, and constantly disinfect everything is making us restless! It is very important, though, that we do not turn our frustration into racism and that we listen to EXPERTS and not fake news spreading around the internet. My friends and I are bored out of our minds, and I think that when this all ends, we will definitely remember this strongly.

See you when school's back!

Hi Mr. G and Mr. Piccigallo! My family and I are doing fine. Thank you so much for asking. How are you guys doing? I think that this pandemic is very unfortunate. I think that the most we can do for now is just to stay alert, and not anxious. Covid-19 honestly brought things to my attention that I really wouldn't have thought about such as online learning. I know that we have not really started online classes, but these were just some things I thought of. It also feels really weird thinking that all of a sudden we aren't gonna be in school for a month. I think that it will be harder for us to learn, but some people prefer to work at home. In school, we have to sit in a classroom for an hour and learn. Some people can work very well and be productive in an environment like that, but others may prefer to work at home, individually, where they could possibly learn more. I also think that many students can learn to manage their time better and be more disciplined this way. We have many distractions at home, and some students may not focus on their work. If so, they will know the consequences and mange their time better. As for the pandemic, I really hope that we can get more testing kits and I believe that it is really important for the public to know a lot about the situation and be updated. Again, it is important to be alert. I hope that this issue does not escalate too much, and everything can be "normal" again soon. Stay safe and wash your hands. Thank you again for asking.

My family and I are doing okay. It's to the point where we are constantly reminded to wash our hands and drink water (which is clearly because of the health concerns), and whenever anyone goes outside, we have to use clorox wipes and clean everything that was touched (doorknobs. bags, etc), mainly to protect my grandparents. Honestly, I felt like the virus was going to die down when the rumors were very minor, but now I'm much more concerned about everyone's hygiene and health. I just hope that this virus will die down by the time we return to school, and everyone's okay.

Because of the virus, I’m constantly reminded to wash my hands and not to touch my face. I catch myself rubbing my eyes a lot, which I never really noticed in the past. My family cleans hard surfaces like tables and door knobs very often. It’s sad knowing that a lot of the activities that I was looking forward to were cancelled. My family and I are doing alright. My mom, dad, and sister still all go out to work, but they are making sure to keep clean everyt ime they get home. Recently, my sister has got a little sick and she works at a pharmacy. We aren't sure if it is the coronavirus that has struck her, but we think it isn't because it was pretty minor. In addition, I think that 1 month without school will get pretty boring even though most people would get excited at the start. In my opinion, the mortality and infecting numbers isn't the real problem, it is rather the fact that many people aren't aware and blame each other for something they have no control over. When something life threatening like this occurs, it usually brings out the worst in us. I hope everyone has a safe month.

One of the most unnerving things about this situation that stays in my head is that any one of us could have COVID-19! But we don't know anything because either we may be asymptomatic or the government is not testing anyone. It is unfortunate how the government has handled this and I want to hear if anyone has a solution that could improve the testing situation.

My family and I are doing fine. My thought on school closing is that it's unnecessary to close it for more than a month. Although many people see this as a good thing because they get to stay home and probably play games. I think it's very boring because I don't get to talk to all my friends and if you're confused on something about the lessons provided, it's harder to communicate with a teacher versus being in class with the teacher. I also don't like staying home because tennis is canceled and I was looking forward to it with my friends too.

My family is in good condition. We are armed with the knowledge of how to defend ourselves from the pandemic and what the virus does . We have bought the CDC recommended N-95 respirator and have wiped all surfaces in our home with sodium hypochlorite. However, I would like to confirm that I have the correct information. I assume that the (novel) coronavirus is a new pathogen of coronaviruses that get their name from the crown-like objects on their surfaces. such pathogens can cause cold like symptoms and can be fatal. Those 80 or older have at least a 20% mortality rate (global scale), which means potentially millions. Novel coronavirus has a 1.8 meter transfer radius and is transfered by contact or water droplets. It is not airborne and at least two other people are infected for two other people. Surgeon masks are ineffective at protecting against the virus, as the virus is too small for the masks to be effective. Talk about "flattening the curve" is about the resources of the medical department, as a spike in infected can quickly drain resources, where that same number of infected, but at a longer period of time. I hope that i have my research correct.
Sincerely, Alex L

My family and I are doing okay. It's just scary that the numbers are doubling by the day because anyone could have it and can spread it to others without their knowledge. It's just tough because i'm worried about my grandparents since this disease is fatal for the elderly especially and i don't think anyone wants to lose a loved one

My family and I are doing fine. Sure we are at each other's throats but that's just life (jk). This pandemic has really disturbed our day to day life but we have been through this before. In 1917 there was an influenza that spread across the U.S and the world. And even though people died from it, we as a species still survived. Follow everything that the CDC recommends and if you want more info check out john olivers 2 coronavirus specials:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c09m5f7Gnic and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_066dEkycr4. One thing I really want to know is why isn't America equipped for this virus? If countries like Singapore and South Korea are equipped with testing why aren't we? All in all, to help keep yourself entertained, call a friend, play video games, and hang out with your family.

My family and I have been shopping and stocking up on food for the past 3 days. We’re are trying to make sure that we have as much food and supply that we need, considering going outside my not be necessary if the pandemic gets worse. Also we need a lot of food cause I eat up the whole house in like a day. My mom still has to go to work though, hopefully they will shut it down for a while.

Me and My family are doing pretty well. Everyone is healthy, and is still trying to be active. I am still running, and doing all the things I would normally do around this time of the year. We are currently in East Quogue, Long Island. To be totally honest, I hate being stuck in one place. I'm getting really restless, really fast. I think its bad, and scary that people are dying, but I don't get why literally everything is shutting down. Personally, I think we should do what the UK is doing, which is quarantine all the older people, and let the younger ones just go on with there regular day lives. People don't think we can get the virus twice, so eventually, it would die out. \

Originally, scientists thought that if you were infected and your immune system successfully fought the virus, you wouldn't be able to catch it a second time. This is what the UK based their whole plan to combat the virus around. However, there was a Japanese women who had the virus once and was declared virus free, but later was tested again and tested positive. As a result, the Uk's plan might not be as effective as it was once thought to be.

My family and I are doing fine. We're currently just staying at home, basically waiting this out. However, I don't think that the government is handling this well. I recently saw a video about the way Wuhan was reacting to their first cases, and they responded very quickly to the virus. I don't really see anything happening in the United States, except for the number of cases and fatalities going up.

My family and I are doing really good! Right now, my brother and I are staying home. My parents still have to go to work though, but they are extra careful when doing so. Hopefully, when the weather gets warmer, the control over the virus gets better.

My family and I are doing well. My parents have prepared extensively for this. I think different countries are addressing this global pandemic in two different ways. Some countries like South Korea are managing to control the virus by quarantining everybody. This method is proving to be quite effective because it has helped keep the number of cases to a minimum. Other countries such as Italy did not address the problem fast enough. As a result, its healthcare system is being overwhelmed. I sincerely hope the United States acts fast enough to end up like South Korea, not Italy.

I am going to my moms place, located at Rhodes island, because it is safer there. Mainly due to there being 5 infected, the last time I checked.

Hello, sorry that this is late; still getting used to everything being online. Anyways, everything is fine right now.Yesterday I went out to buy something and it was really surreal because the usually crowded NYC seemed like a ghost town. For the most part, my and family and I just stay in our house.

My family and I are doing pretty well. The virus is very bad and preventing people from doing their normal day to day activities. Today I went outside with my mom to get some groceries and the streets were basically empty. My mom also keeps telling us about how some crazy people are attacking asian people and blaming them for coronavirus. But other than that we are doing fine.

Hi Mr G,
This pandemic has been hard, First we are stuck in side all day. Second, a bunch of people in my family are at risk of getting this virus. Honestly, I wish we still had school. I don't like having to do work online because I end up not getting a lot done. Also, I don't like how whenever you go outside you have to be extremely careful because that makes it harder to be active and less fun. Don't get me wrong, I'm being incredibly careful and taking all precautions, but its annoying and I wish I didn't have to.
